Weather cancels Saturday’s balloon launch on Day 8 of Balloon Fiesta

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) — Saturday is the eighth day of the Albuquerque International Ball. The weather forced the cancellation of the Saturday morning launch.

At 6:29 p.m. Saturday, officials said severe weather was forecast for the night, and they are ask visitors to take shelter. Evening Glow has been canceled for Saturday.

Heavier rains were expected to move through central New Mexico during the afternoon. It is expected to be the most soggier of the two weekend days. High temperatures will not rise again until the mid-60s for Albuquerque, the upper 50s for Santa Fe, and the upper 60s for Roswell.

Sunday morning, the final day of the Balloon Fiesta is expected to feature better weather for an otherwise uncertain fiesta forecast period. We will see lighter scattered showers / weaker thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon. The heaviest rains will fall over southern New Mexico near Roswell and Ruidoso.
