Just as we learned from Carl Fredricksen in the Disney Pixar movie At the top, you are never too old for adventure. Our sassy North Gibson School Corporation school bus driver told me this high-flying good news, and I had to share it with the world.
What’s on your bucket list?
When you think about the things you want to do in your life, it might be traveling every state or eating at every McDonald’s restaurant, but for Shirley Kramer, her list included adventurous activities like ziplining and riding in a hot air balloon. She was able to go ziplining at Camp Carson in Gibson County.
Where to find a hot air balloon?
If you wanted to take a hot air balloon ride right now, where would you go? This was the tricky part of Shirley’s bucket list item. Well, let me tell you, if anyone knows anyone who can do anything at Princeton, it’s Jon Jon. You see, his sister, Vanessa McClary happens to be leading the annual meeting Kiwanis Indiana Balloon Fest in Bloomington, Indiana. This festival is happening this weekend, so Jon Jon got to work and made this dream come true for 84-year-old Shirley Kramer!
It’s a small world after all
As Jon Jon told me the story, I immediately thought what a small world it really was. The “It’s a Small World” ride at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom happens to have a stage with hot air balloons.

Then and Now: See How Princeton, Indiana Has Changed Over the Years
I grew up in Princeton, IN and every time I come back to visit it seems like more and more has changed. It’s not my imagination. Google Maps has a back in time feature, and it took me from 2007 to 2012, and some of the photos are from 2018.
