Australia sends its globally popular blue heel of Bluey as a new balloon to travel the route of the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The giant balloon, which was specially created for the event, measures 51 feet long, 37 feet wide and 52 feet high.
Bluey follows the adventures of an adorable and inexhaustible six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy who lives with his father, his mother and his four-year-old little sister, Bingo. Hand painted by a team of artists using approximately 50 gallons of blue paint, the Bluey Balloon will float above an audience of 3.5 million spectators and 50 million television viewers across the United States on Thursday 24 November, during the famous Parade.
“As one of the most popular characters in children’s entertainment today, we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Bluey from Australia to the lineup for the 96th Macy’s Parade,” said Jordan Dabby, producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “Millions of families will be thrilled to see Bluey celebrate her first New York Thanksgiving as she flies through the streets of Manhattan on parade day.”
“Being part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a real highlight for Bluey,” said Rebecca GlashowManaging Director, Global Distribution, BBC Studios. “This iconic event has long been a big part of the holiday season for kids and families across the United States. We couldn’t be happier to have Bluey here to join in this year’s celebration in New York City. .” Other balloons from the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade lineup include the main character of the Diary of a Wimpy Child book series, Stuart the Minion, Astronaut Snoopy, Goku, a Funko-Pop! style of Grogu, Pikachu and Eevee in a sleigh, the Pillsbury Doughboy and many more. If you’re anything like me, after the parade you’ll watch the National Dog Show and lightly judge the appearance of innocent dogs. Either way, tune in to watch the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 24, starting at 9 a.m. on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
