World Mobile Expands Hybrid Mobile Network Capabilities with New Balloon Atlas Partnership

World Mobile, the first people-powered and managed blockchain-built mobile network, announced a partnership with Atlas LTA Advanced Technology (Atlas) that will secure the supply of aerostats (tethered balloon platforms) to connect the unconnected.

As part of its hybrid network, World Mobile plans to launch the aerostats across Africa to fulfill its mission to connect the unconnected and provide connectivity to hundreds of millions of people. Starting in Zanzibar in the third quarter of this year, the Atlas aerostats will help provide almost 100% connectivity to the island. After Zanzibar, World Mobile plans to launch in mainland Tanzania and Kenya, followed by rollout in Africa and globally. Each aerostat will connect over one hundred thousand subscribers, each with their own blockchain wallet on World Mobile. World Mobile aims to deploy thousands of aerostats across the continent.

Its partnership with Atlas LTA Advanced Technology is World Mobile’s second aerostat partner. Last December, it announced its first partnership with the American company Altaeros. Both partnerships will play a vital role in helping World Mobile fulfill its mission.

Over the past 30 years, Atlas has built a formidable team of aerospace systems engineers. They have designed, built, and operated all manner of aerial vehicles filled with lighter-than-air gases: helium or patented safe hydrogen. Among the vehicles are more than 200 tethered aerostats which have been used for private and corporate communication networks in 14 countries.

Atlas aerostats are attached to heights of up to 1,500 meters, and these flying “towers” greatly expand the range of telecommunications equipment contained in them, providing a coverage area of up to 50-75 km radius. They can stay aloft for weeks using only the buoyancy of lighter-than-air (LTA) gas. They are secured to the ground by integrated lanyards, which include light and strong wires, wires for power supply and fiber optic lines for high-speed data transfer.
Micky Watkins, CEO of World Mobile, said, “World Mobile is on a mission to connect the unconnected and build the first people-powered and managed mobile network. Working with an innovative and expert partner like Atlas, who shares our values, will make us stronger.”

Gennadiy Verba, President and CEO of Atlas LTA Advanced Technology, said, “Our international team includes some of the most experienced professionals in our market, so we are able to deliver innovative concepts based on our experience and latest materials and technologies. We are thrilled to use this to partner with World Mobile in their goal to provide truly innovative and life-changing solutions to bring connectivity to everyone, wherever they are in the world.
